Treatment Options
Depending on your condition, your doctor may recommend non-surgical or surgical treatments:
Non-surgical
Non-surgical remedies may range from rest and liquids to a series of antibiotics. Occasional sore throats, strep throat, and mild tonsillitis may be treated non-surgically.
Traditional tonsillectomy
The traditional method of choice for tonsillectomy has been electrosurgery. Although this procedure yields satisfactory clinical results, the patient's postoperative experience may be less than optimal. Unpleasant complications such as pain and extended recovery times are still an issue.
COBLATION◊ tonsillectomy
COBLATION technology uses plasma energy, not heat energy, to precisely dissect or ablate soft tissue. Because of this, the COBLATION device removes the targeted tissue, while still maintaining the integrity of the surrounding areas.
